Dr. Who Christmas Dalek
an kinda went downhill- my day from hell.
I will be SO glad when Emily gets back from vacation. I like the office a little better when it's running on all four peoples.
Today was basically me moving files around in a cycle of about 3 different piles on my desk.
Phone would ring: I'd dig up a file I was working on. - then I would put it..somewhere else.
*rinse* repeat*

So, you'll forgive me if I look less than perky in my *after* pic. 'Tis been a long day.

And here they are. My "something different" new hairstyle.
---And yes, I do know how to use the mirror and reverse the camera, so that I don't get the big flash in the pic, (and the toothpaste splats on the mirror!)But my new camera doesn't have that great of a wide shot...so when I tried it that way, I got an EXTREME close-up. And noone wants to be that up close and personal with my nose! :)

Me, before: I've had this basic style for at least 4 years now. )
This was also taken on the downside of the sinus infection...so I still have the specs on. 8)

And me, now. After Tuesday's haircut and today's long day. )

So I still have piles of files on my desk.(( Miles and miles of piles of files! *snerk*))
But tomorrow is my day. I'm gonna regain control! I'm gonna see the surface of my desk again! Just you wait and see!

I'm making a TARDIS cake for my birthday. Hee! We shall see how this turns out.
And if turns out good, I'll post pics! ;)

*
The Boss left early today, (something broke down at the bar) and so we didn't have to work a late night. (YAY!) Of course that kinda scares me, because he will probably want to stay late tomorrow night. (BOO!)

*
Customers make me crazy. Worked up all the paperwork on a $1400.00 class 5 today. --Have been doing the write up on this one for the past 3 days- and the lady calls me *I kid you not* almost every 4 to 5 hours to check and see if its done...or how done is it...or have you figured how much I'll get...or what are the payments going to be...NO! Not done!
Yeesh.
Anyway I finished it today (she had already called twice) Ran the thing up so that it would be ready and all she would have to do is sign the paperwork here, here, and here.....
She didn't show up.
o_0

10 till close, I call her. She says, ....wait for it......
"Yeah. I've been talking with my daughter, and I'm thinking that I really shouldn't take this loan out at this time."

oh. no. you. didn't.

So, when I regained my ability to speak without screaming, I told her that it was finished, ready to sign, and she would come pick it up tomorrow.

She said she would.
I honestly think that she got from the tone of my voice that it would be in her best interest to come and sign the paperwork.

*
So ready for the weekend.

"...things are getting a bit, uneasy..."

Dr. Who Christmas Dalek
I just had a case of "My Boss is a Big Ol Jerk- Day".

Which is fairly unusual. And makes me uncomfortable.
Things have changed quite a bit at work while I was on vacation. Seems like...well, actually, doesn't even "seem like"- What it IS is that everyone there has some side ambitions to get the Hell out of there. And not just my office. Our sister office across town? Both the people working there are looking for other jobs, too.
I applied at the City. Came back to work to find that Emily had applied at one of the factories for payroll clerk. Even Josh has applied for 2 other jobs!
Wow.

Back to the Manager thing: I have a STACK of paperwork on my desk. Mostly class 5 loans that I'm preparing. (weird how there were NO new loans made last week while I was off. NONE. And now I'm working up 5! One of which was actually applied for last week, but somehow got put off till THIS week....interesting how that worked out)

And amongst the stack of applications on my desk there was a stray lien form. A lien form in the name of someone NOT a customer. Obviously the person that the car belongs to is a joint account holder, and the name wasn't added to the file. I asked Emily if she recognized the name. She said she didn't so I asked the Boss. "Hey, do you know why this form is on my desk?"

He completely trips out. "Oh! Let me just stop what I'm doing, and see how I can help you."

Hello?

So I tell him don't bother that I will find it on my own.

***steam***

BUT then he makes it worse. Doing the jerk-like thing. "Well...is our name on it? Does it have an account number? Is it one for another office?" And he just keeps going ON!
You know....DUH. If I knew these things I wouldn't have ASKED for his input in the first place! I just thought that I would ask him since I HAD BEEN GONE FOR A WEEK! and it was an unfamiliar name.

Oh. And? The oh-so-important work that I interrupted? He was typing up a loan application- FOR HIS BUSINESS! Not at all related to company work. It was personal crap!
WTF!

On top of everything else we had to work a late night yesterday-today-and the rest of the week. INCLUDING Friday. Which means I'll miss most of my "June's" birthday party.
Not that that is such a bad thing, really. Divorce, and the separating of friends sucks.
So does the "fifth wheel syndrome"
"Oh yeah! Come to your "June's" birthday party! It'll be great fun. It'll be Mark & Rosie, Mom & Dad, Ray & April...and you!"

Probably I'll use the working late excuse to skip the whole thing.

*grumblegrumble *steam* grumble*

So who's with me in thinking that work is pretty much giving the message of "RUN! do not walk to the nearest classified section/personnel office and start looking for something to fall back on?

Ahhhhh, back to work. Just like falling off a bicycle.

Boy-O Did I return to major drama. We may be short an Asst.Mgr. (again. We can't seem to keep 'em around. wonder why?) He's been kinda lazin' off on some of his duties....which I've mentioned in the past. Both here and to the Manager. Which...I mean, hey. It's kinda a crappy job sometimes.
OK most of the time. But, not to totally run the kid down...he's young- And used to working outside "labor" jobs. I just don't think he's ready to sit behind a desk.

So, NEway, we had to share his workload today. Between the three of us we got our calls done at 3:00. It's a job that's usually finished before noon. I got my lunch break at 4:00.

Also learned today that the whole state wil start running Class 5 loans. These are the larger loans that involve insurance and personal property liens. These are the loans that, for a while only our office ran. Now there are 3 offices statewide that run them. And it looks like, starting next month--statewide! Omigosh I can see the train wreck from here! LOL

Although. The Manager was telling me that they may set up a "central hub office where all class 5 applications are faxed- worked up- built- and then faxed back to the base office."
He said that he may apply to work there due to his experience.
"Oh no!" I say. "If you go, I'm goin' too!"
Our Supervisor is freaking at the whole idea. *snicker*
Then I told him that I could work there too.....
Then I realized how cool it would be that I could say I worked at the 'Hub'.
*small fangirly things amuse me so much*

Ahhh work drama. How I missed it.....well, not so much.

1. Who's the black sheep in your family? Me. Definitely.

2. Do you take your coffee black? Black with sugar. Sometimes creamery stuff...but usually black with sugar.

3. Do you own a Blackberry? Pssht. I barely own a real cellphone.

4. Which black forest would you rather eat - cake or ham? Cake.....Mmmmmmmmm with cherries.

5. Have you ever had a black eye? Nope. I'm a lover, not a fighter.

Just got a call from Mom-n-law. (A good one this time!)
Seems that the "new girl" at the town water department decided to up and quit yesterday. The gossip is that she got a "fair" rating on her 90 day review. The review is what the pay rate is based on. - You see where this is going.
SO! There is a position open with the city at the water department.
It's full time, 8-5, Monday-Friday, no weekends, no holidays.
It would be a cut in pay, but I would probably make that up in savings on gas driving back and forth. (City Hall is right downtown. I could walk there if I wanted to.)

OMIGOSH! This came up right when I was going to use my vacation time looking for a better job.

I'm going to go and put in an application Monday. Wish me luck!!

housesitting, day 6

Not sure exactly how many more days there will be of housesitting. I was thinking that tonight would be my last.
However. Tonight at the twins' birthday party I asked mom if she had heard from him and when he would be back. She hasn't heard from him. SHe told me that he had told Dad that he might be back Friday...maybe Sunday.
Well, gooooood. Nice to have a plan.
*
I got to play manager today. In more ways than one. The Boss called in sick so "interim manager" goes right to me. I was reminded of this when the checks came in the mail today and we pondered if we could cash them today after 2:00(When he usually lets us have them ) or if we had to wait because one of his big things is that NO ONE passes out checks but him.
Both my co-workers chimed in at the same time "But you're acting Manager!"
LOL! Times get kind of frantic a few days before we get our paychecks.

Also. I took a 3 hour lunch. I didn't MEAN to! Melanie came by the office asd askied if I wanted to have lunch with her. We haven't talked in AGES!
And I guess we tried to make up for it during lunch.
Time had passed, I realized that we had been at our table through a few cycles of other diners. But I completely lost track of time. I started wondering why no one had called me (they always do) and when I checked my phone I had 9 messages! OOopsie!-- I had the ringer on vibrate since church services and forgot to change the ring.
I felt *SO* bad.
So. Three hour lunch, AND my phone went straight to voicemail. SEE! I can be manager material! *snerk*

Also had a great conversation with the Assistant Manager that could be right for the script of an HBO original:

Me: "I've got something you want...."
Him: "YES!"
Me: "You want it? Come get it."
Him:"Yes! Oh. I love you!"

Too bad we were talking about the paychecks. ;)
And the fact the he is still a teenager. That would make it a Showtime script, yeah?

Well. Since I don't know how long I'll be here for sure. I'm going to close the computer down and go spend some quality time with the poodle and The Doctor.

laters!

Monday is STUPID day!

LMAO! We just had a customer come in to make a payment. She asked "Could you add this up for me on your adding machine thing?"

Suuuuure.

"OK. Add $100.00, and $84.37. On your adding machine thing."

Diane kind of blinked and said, "One hundred eighty four dollars and thirty seven cents."

"No." And the customer was adamant about this. "Add it up on your machine."

Oh-kay.

And, lo and behold, it added up to $184.37! Imagine that.

*facepalm*

I wish I would just follow that urge to get on the interstate and just keep drivin'.

Like today!
OMG. Walked in to work, *coff*slightlylate*coff* and there's the state auditor. Camped out at MY desk.

Yeah. That never fails to put everyone in a horrible mood.

He's gone now, and we passed everything with flying colors. But still. Makes us edgy.

The good news? I got our new digital camera in the mail today! WHOOT! It's really for office use. But the Mgr. said that I can take it home and learn to use it properly so we can use it for collateral pics.

So you know what that means! PhotoMeme!!

I need my Flist to play along. --Reply to this post with 3 things that you want me to take a pic of.

.....aaaand when I figure out the camera, I'll post the results here. *GLEE!*

THe earlier rant? There was more to it. But they waltzed in when I had finally gotten around to posting. LOL! I had to do the "panic button" post.

*hee!*

What I was about to go on about- was that the Boss had said that we needed to be out of there at 5:30. (We're getting too much overtime, which translates on too much profit money spent on paychecks) And in the same breath he said we also had to do reports tonight.
Thursday = report night.

Which left me thinking: Yeah. We'll be sure to do that. Just as soon as we find a way to suspend time and do everything- then start it right back up again so we can clock out on time.
See- reports can't be ran untill AFTER the computers are logged out for the day. The computers can't be logged out for the day until 5:30.
Hello?

We ended up leaving at 6:00...guess my paycheck ate a little more profit.
...not that I'll be able to notice.

oh well. All-in-all just another fun day at the office. We really can't gripe too much. When we found out that they would be out for the rest of the day, Diane and I took a two hour lunch break to watch soaps in the breakroom. :)

I just had a customer call in to the office and ask if her loan was renewable.
OK.
Something in the back of my head said...Hummmmmmmmmm......
When I pulled up the account on the computer: Deceased.
0.o
DECEASED!

I had Diane look up the account, too....just incase my mind was pulling tricks.
Nope.

I got back on the line and told her that the account had some funds available......(uhm)...Did she want to renew?
She said no, not for that ammount. Could she just send in a money order a few days late?

LATE?!

OK. Clearly we have the wrong person marked as deceased...'cause she sounded right chipper for a dead lady.

...Now I just wonder who it is that actually passed on....and are we calling her?!

*sheesh* what a day. Work was very...trying. Our internet access computer was down. Which means we are backed up on paperwork. The tax people (it's their computer that theu supply to us to file taxes with.) were working on it remotely almost all day-- still can't figure what went wonky.

random fun for the day: When I started to count down my drawer to close the day...I dropped it. Change went everywhere. --And I had just opened a roll of quarters and a roll of nickles! *headdesk*

Oh well. Just another Day in the Life of Owen Smith. LOL! --I'm afraid that might actually stick.

Hee! I have a new alias.
With my job, I do a lot of phone work. Which can lead to funny. All of us in the office are called a misheard name fairly often. I got a lot of "Linda". Some "Gwen". Even "Lydia" every once in a while.
Diane laughs at me a lot because I frequently spell out my (in my opinion- very simple) name.
"Yes. Could you tell her to call Lynn. L-Y-N-N." And Diane laughs. :)

But here's the thing- Sometimes even spelling doesn't help. Today I called a message number and asked to leave my name and number for a customer to call back. "Sure." Said the older woman on the other end of the line. She had to be about a hundred and three and missing a hearing aid. "Let me get some paper." *shuffle, shuffle* "OK, hon. What is it?"

"Please have him call Lynn, with Ronald's office..."

"Hold on....That's O-E....no, no....O-W-E..."

"Lynn. L-Y-N.."

"OK, OK, I got it...Owen Smith...And what was the number?" ... ( o.O ?! )

"It's Lynn. L-Y- "

"I got that part, Owen....What's the number?"

I kid you not.

I finally gave up after I *think* she got the number down right.
Then I told the manager that if someone calls for "Owen", that's me!
:)

Ahhh, work. It does keep me entertained, if nothing else!

Lady came in today to make a payment. As she searched through her purse, she realized that she didn't have her checkbook. "OH! Buttermilk!" she exclaimed.
Whassahuh? o.0
LOL!! That was the first time I've heard the word "buttermilk" used as an expletive.
Hee!

We've got an Asst.Mgr/CSR meeting tomorrow. SO I really gotta go to bed early tonight (And be sure to hit the coffee tomorrow!) so that I can A) get up early enough to make the rendevous point for the drive up there. And B)stay awake through the whole meeting.
I *hate* these meetings. Ah well, I somebody's gotta show up so that Corporate can think they have a grasp on things. That would be me. I'm the "show up" girl.

So, goodnight. I'll brief you on the meeting tomorrow.

DUMB
Omigosh we just had a surge of stupid customers today. An I can't blame it on the full moon or anything like that this time....*sheesh*

recreated conversation between myself and a customer this morning:

C (is for customer, that's good enough for meee!)
*ahem*

C: "Yes.....I'm calling to check on the status of my loan."

Me: "I'm sorry, Sir. We're short-staffed today. I haven't been able to work on that application yet, and it probably won't be done today."

C: "Oh."..long pause..."I live here (in a town 12 miles! from the office. not even a 20 minute drive!) And I'm coming into town later today. I was hoping to get that done today so I don't have to make more than one trip."

Me: *boggles* "Well. Like I said, I just haven't had a chance to work on it. The first of the month is a very busy time for us, and those loans to take four to five business days." (He put in the application on Friday)

C: "Would you maybe be able to work it up for me if I came by and waited later this afternoon?"

Me: ((WTF?)) "No. Sir, It will not be done today. The Manager is out and all loans must have management approval."

C: "Well. Do you have the figures and amounts ready for me yet?"

HELLO!?!

Me: (more than slightly annoyed) "No. I have not had a chance to work on your loan yet. I apologise for the inconvenience. But these loans, as I said, do take up to five business days."

C: "Well. Is it ok if I call back and check with you this afternoon?"

Me: (breaks out into hives) answers calmly, "Sure."

Dude would NOT take "no" for an answer.

In another incident, a lady had called in an application last night just before we closed. Again, for a large loan. She called back this morning slightly pissed because no one had called her back last night. I *AGAIN* told her that those type of loan took four to five business days. She seemed to understand. Called me back with collateral information. Where *AGAIN* she was told that it would take a few days to process.
Then she called back at 5:00 and wanted to know why no one had called her yet to let her know if her loan had been approved or not. O.o
AGAIN I 'splained. Those loan types take Four. Or. Five. Business. Days.
She says: "NO. I was told four or five o'clock!"

I kid you not. I couldn't make this up if I wanted to.

When I tried to explain the process again, she got huffy and said "Fine! If it's going to take that long I don't want it. Just shread my information!"

Ooooh-Kay.

Where do they keep coming from?!
