it started with spilled coffee...

an kinda went downhill- my day from hell.
I will be SO glad when Emily gets back from vacation. I like the office a little better when it's running on all four peoples.
Today was basically me moving files around in a cycle of about 3 different piles on my desk.
Phone would ring: I'd dig up a file I was working on. - then I would put it..somewhere else.
*rinse* repeat*

So, you'll forgive me if I look less than perky in my *after* pic. 'Tis been a long day.

And here they are. My "something different" new hairstyle.
---And yes, I do know how to use the mirror and reverse the camera, so that I don't get the big flash in the pic, (and the toothpaste splats on the mirror!)But my new camera doesn't have that great of a wide shot...so when I tried it that way, I got an EXTREME close-up. And noone wants to be that up close and personal with my nose! :)

Me, before:

This was also taken on the downside of the sinus infection...so I still have the specs on. 8)

And me, now.

So I still have piles of files on my desk.(( Miles and miles of piles of files! *snerk*))
But tomorrow is my day. I'm gonna regain control! I'm gonna see the surface of my desk again! Just you wait and see!

Went to get in the PT and head to work this morning- know what I found?

Kittens! In my tires! Front and back drivers side to be specific. So I had to crawl around and pull them out. All hissin'and spittin'...not at ALL happy that they had been found.

They have calmed down a little now. Still hiss and spit a little when I walk past the box. But they are soooooo cute!

You know anyone who needs a kitten?

I don't waaaaaaaaaana go to work!

Ok. I mostly don't want to go back to work. I don't want to face the pages and pages of calls, that I will need to do on my own. (THAT'S fun to walk back in on. Emily will be on vacation this week) I don't want to face the fallout for leaving work with two loans unfinished. I knew not to do that. Sick or no, I should have finished those completely.

But, I am kinda ready to get back in the world. AND I think Gramma and I have spent enough together time for awhile. Especially with the both of us being sick and grumpy. YIKES!

And I've missed out on a load of work!drama. Can't wait to find out how all that's going....

I think I'll bake Charles a cake...sort of a "thank you for giving me extra time off without griping please don't start now" gift. Carrot cake (which is his favorite. With cream cheese icing. Um-Yummy.

So that's my plan for tonight. Cake and watching my series 2 disc 5 of Doctor who....I'm up to Doomsday. *sigh*

but before I go there here is my "oh my gosh I love this you have to see it" fanvid of the moment:
<lj-embed id="24" />

and that's why I love Doctor/Rose.

Saturday. Is it already Saturday?!

OK. It's been a WEEK! It all started with sniffles last Saturday. And I STILL have this crud hanging on. Now, I AM feeling better.
Tuesday when I went to the Dr. I felt like the cold shadow of death was actually following me around the house.
But still, congested, and head-hurty. Still haven't gone back to my contacts, either. AND, without going into TMI-land let's just say that antibiotics are not the most fun things in the world. Those of you who have had to take massive huge doses, just nod along and understand my pain.

Even though I've been off a week, my house is a slacker-disaster. So I gotta do with the cleaning sometime this weekend.
Annnnnnnd..I gotta figure out how to hook up my new digital camera to my computer. I didn't have any luck with the one that I had from work...so maybe just randomly this time will be easier.
'Tis another Kodak EasyShare. Different model, but basically the same. Got it for my upcoming vacation, cause I'm thinking that the office might miss it, if it went AWOL for a week!

***bonus with todays post:: Yesterday's Friday 5**
Smells, and memories.

1. Do you have a scent that when you smell it, brings up a memory? Do share.
I have always associated smells with memories. Lots of different things. One of my favorites is that indescribable, unmistakable scent of Fall. leaves, and dried grass and a scent of incoming rain *****I love it!

2. Songs. Is there a particular song that brings back happy memories? Song title and memory, if you care to share that much.
The "Once More With Feeling" soundtrack always makes me happy. Good times with good friends at the Sing-Along.

3. How about a song that brings up painful memories?
Song title and memory, if you care to share that much.
Randy Travis, Forever & Ever Amen. I still can't listen to it without crying. I will change the station at work, or leave the office when it comes on.

4. Food. Is there a certain food that conjures up memories?
I always think of Grandpa when we make fried apple pies. Those were his ultimate favorite. I remember him sharing them with me. :)

5. Clothing? Do you have an item of clothing or if you see a certain item, does it make you think of a time/place or person?
All my costume stuff holds memories. RenFaires, parties, DragonCon. My costumes make me happy. :)
...except for the "cursed cloak"

another day home

resting and drinking lots of fluids.
Can't say that I'm not enjoying the time off, it would just be so much better if I felt GOOD!
Am feeling better though. Slept a little better last night. Only had two episodes of violent coughing. (yay!)

Only bad thing ((other that the HUGE ammounts of paperwork that will be waiting for me when I go back to work)) is that there is SO MUCH that I could be doing around the house, and I just don't have the energy to do it.
I find myself concentrating on ... breathing.

One thing:

Have been playing around with my new phone. It has a "lantern" feature.
Lantern.
Which is pretty much a bright white screen.
Well hey. Now that I know this- The next rock concert I go to, I am good to go!

I also figured out how to take my service reminder off the main screen. "Add airtime by (blink)
11/11/09
(blink)
or service ends"

It just sounded a little demanding.
So now I have drugs...

and a note from my doctor that I won't be at work tomorrow. ...And I'm feelin' pretty good about the world. Or that could be the codeine talkin'.

When I got home from the clinic, (I have a severe sinus infection, but my lungs are clear, so YAY!) I went by the post office and found disc 4 of Doctor Who Series 2. - I am SO in love with Netflix!! THis has to be the best service in the world!

I took some caugh medicine and proceded to watch The Impossible Planet and The Satan Pit. Of course, I had to watch them three times so that I caught it all. Drugs are good, unless you are trying to concentrate on fandom, and not fall asleep.
Anyhoo...I really liked both of these eps. And I gotta say- if you are an "on the fence" shipper of Doctor/Rose - the cute little conversation at the table in The Impossible Planet really should push you over (I was already a full on shiper)- It made me go "Ahwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!" cute! UST- How'd they manage that?!

Now. As much as I like 10/Rose....Had that entire scene played out exactly the same, with 9? There would be melting involved.

And I like Rose as a take-charge! kinda girl. :)

Also found this on another community and nabbed it to share:
<lj-embed id="23" />

How much awsome would that be. Torchwood Sing Along.

...and "...stealing my James..." hee!

whiny sick post

S'ok...here's something that I didn't anticipate about being single. I have no one to baby me when I'm sick.
Boo.

I feel horrible. How horrible? It's affecting my brain.
True.
Today at "lunch" (at 4:00!) THe Boss asked how I was feeling. I told him "miserable" - And I feel it too. He says "Are you going home?" I say, "No, I have too much to do."

What?!

True. I do have a crapload of paperwork. Stuff multiplies overnight, I tell ya.
But still. I could have gone home? And I didn't? The stuffy sinuses are affecting my thinking.

*whine* I'm sniffley, and sneezy, and *coof*coff*cofff* and teary-eyed wearing my glasses cause it hurts to wear my contacts.
Bleh.

I want some orange juice.

/end whine

my face hurts.

Seriously. My sinuses are so bad that my TEETH hurt.

And on top of that I have the privilage of watching my cousins. Only because no one else will. And someone thought it would be a good idea to feed the baby chocolate amd let her go.
Yeah. Hands and mouth covered in chocolate. She wanders down the hall and now there is a nice blotchy streak of chocolate about a foot an a half high down the hallway and on my door.
Nice.

I tried to use the "Movie as Distraction" method earlier. We were watching Harry Potter Chamber of Secrets. Yeah. All the way up to when they crash the car into the Whomping Willow. Which comes pretty early on. The kids loved that. Then they wandered away. Bored.

Someone shoot me now.

Here's the recipe for my 4 layer delight - Or as Kitty calls it "Sex in a pan"!

I made mine in a 9x13 casserole, and the ingredients were just right for that size pan.

(also. I just took a dose of NyQuil, so if I start typing slurry by the end of the recipe- you know why.) :P
This is a fairly well known recipe. But just in case you haven't had the pleasure, I shall share!

1st layer:
1 cup flour
2 tablespoons sugar (or sugar substitute. Splenda is awesome.)
1/2 cup melted butter
1 3/4 cups crushed pecans. *get a zipper bag. get a hammer. take out some frustrations on the pecans- perfect!* (set aside a few crushed pecans to sprinkle on the top of the dessert. Makes it look all pretty.)

Mix ingredients and press to bottom and sides of pan. Bake in 400* oven till golden brown.

then add

2nd layer:
8oz. package cream cheese
8oz. cool whip (get the 16 oz. or bigger size, that way you have plenty for this layer and the topping.)
1 cup powdered sugar

Mix and set aside. Add to the crust when it has cooled.

then add:

3rd layer:
chocolate pudding.
I used 4 small boxes of instant pudding mix. Following the directions for the "pudding pie" version. Also I use 1/2 of the milk that is called for- 2% and half evaporated milk. Gives the pudding a richer taste.

then top with cool whip and sprinkle pecan bits.

YAY! Yumdillyishus!*

Soooooooooooooooooooo good!

And now Imma go crash. An hope to the good Lord that I can sleep and wake up feeling better.

(*copyright Spirk)

Just got back fro Piggly Wiggly. Ianto's thermometer said it was 106 degrees.

106!!!!

Gah. Summer sucks.

Also. On a completely unrelated side note to my funny life: Gramma just brought me a roasted marshmallow.
We have an electric stove.
*shakes head* I was wondering what that smell was. Only my Gramma....
:o)

oh, Jayne.

My little kitty is such a goofball. I've been trying to copy recipes from whatever scraps of paper that Gramma has jotted them down on- to recipe cards.
I don't know if Jayne just is firmly against me doing this, or if he just wants a cuddle.
He would sit down on whatever I was reading. I would move it. He would lay across my notecards. I would move him. He would stretch back across the old recipes. I actually moved my paperwork around him and was leaning over the cat to write in the middle of the table. Nothing doing. He wanted to be ON the paper. LOL! Such a silly kitty.

I did come across one of my *favorite* desserts. Four layer delight. YUM! Which I will be making a trip to the Piggly Wiggly here in just a few minutes to get the ingrediants so I can make it tonight.

**snifffffugh* Fighting through what is either an ATTACK of sinuses, or maybe a summer cold. I feel thoroughly yucky. ((but so bad as to pass up chocolatey, cream cheesey goodness!))

And later tonight, if I'm not taken completely out by my sniffling, sneezing and runny-nose- I plan to clean out my closet. I've been shoving stuff in there since I moved in here. Mostly to get it out of the way. Time to go through it.

Exciting weekend, huh?! :)

If there are one or more people on your friends list who make your world a better place just because they exist, and who you would not have met (in real life or not) without the Internet, then post this same sentence in your journal.

Probably I couldn't make it through the real world without you as friends.

Because there are days like today. The Fird.
My icon was me today. I could NOT brain. I lost track of the people whose names I COULD NOT remember. And our tax test? Yeeeeeah. I'll be taking that over.
TGIF!!
I am soooooooo wiped out. I'm only awake now because I just got up from a unexpected nap on the couch. And I'm on my way to my soft comfy bed.

Sweet Dreams!

Today's random funny moment:

Emily had gone to Aroma's to put in our lunch orders. She brought back their new drink menu. We were going over the yummies and she said, "That's a funny name, "The Nutty Irishman"."

And I say, "What? Does it have Baileys?" snicker*snicker cause this is a coffee shop..not a bar.

ANYWAY.

The boss looks at me and points a finger. "You know. For someone who keeps sayin' she doesn't drink, you know an awful lot about alcohol."

Hee!

"By the way, Lynnie, we're going to a funeral today."

0_o I hate funerals. But, when one of our long-time customers dies, Ronald and I go to the funeral. Just a thing we do.
But he's all, Hurry with your calls, we gotta leave at 11:00.
11:00?
I thought most funerals in general were at 2:00.
I was right. This one was too. But we had to go early, because we were carying the family in the limo. So, we take the limo to BFE Vian. - The woods were creeping RIGHT up to the road! No bars on the cell phones! BFE!!

The funeral was long, but very beautifully put together. They sang songs in the Creek language. Had part of the service in English and part in Native American Creek. Lovely. ANd a huge turn out. Even at the graveside, which was OMG!103 degreese out there!

(And we were standing under a lovely cedar tree. I figure I won't be able to breathe at all by tomorrow morning.)

We got back to the office 10 mins till close. I'm sure Emily hates us both. And mostly Josh, who actually called in drunk this morning. (it's his birthday. to which I say SO! I had to work on my birthday! But I do give him points for the honesty. )

And also:

It's like the elements are saying:

"Cold natured? Comfortable in the summer? Ha. Take this!"

Today? The power went out. At least on our block. I went down to Mom'nDad's and theirs was out too. Went our around 3:40ish. Came back on about 10 mins ago.
And this time with the air not working we got the bonus of having no ceiling fans. IT's didn't get as hot. Only 76 right now. But it was stifling! with no air at all moving in the house.
*sigh* I'm starting to REALLY dislike summer.

I decided to use the quiet time to move things around in the house. One of the metal shelving units that was in my room is now here in the sewing/computer/pantry. Moved the baby changing table that I inherited- back into my room. It's now serving as my TV table. Which puts the TV just up enough that I don't have to cran my neck to watch it while I'm walking on the Gazel. I have GOT to get my butt moving again. Too much time behind the desk is taking its toll.

Hope everyone else is having a COOL weekend!

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

Crisis averted!

Brother in law came back with a thing that looked like a can of Red BUll. I kid you not. Silver, cylindrical, and about that size. He showed me where the other one had bulged out at the top. (Just like a dented pop can.)
We clicked the air on, and heard the most wonderful sound evah!

\o/ YAYS!

And then he pulled out a Sonic Thermometer! It looked kind of like a mini-hot glue gun. But it had this neat blue glow on the end!... He pointed it at the nearest ceiling vent to check the temp readings.
I'm sure that I'm giddy from all the heat, but my first thought was "Huh. Who looks at a thermometer and says 'That could be more sonic'"

Now we're back down to 80 degrees and cooling. Pretty soon it will be cool enough to actually sleep. HUZZAH!

Saw this commercial today before the X-Files movie. (Which I pretty much loved.)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CWFsOkvGAug

(must clicky. Embedding disabled by request)

Anyway...I was staring up at the screen completely torn between thinking "What the Hell!" and "Cool." I'm actually kinda leaning toward "Cool." Just for the funny.
I leaned over to the Ex, (Yeah. We went to the movies together today after all the hullabaloo from yesterday. Sometimes I just don't understand life at all.) and said, "You know what makes this funny? The age that these clothes are made for? This goes completely over their heads." Of course it's the parents that are the target market. The ones with the back-to-school-budgets. But still. Funny.
